A Jatiya Party (Ershad) legislator yesterday visited different polling centres of the municipality election at Haragachh in Rangpur barefoot and shirtless to protest an attack on him.

Karim Uddin Bharasa, also JP district unit president, took the symbolic manner of protest against the attack allegedly by ruling alliance cadres on Monday.

Karim in the morning at Haragachh College centre told reporters that the cadres of the alliance government instructed by BNP leader Rahim Uddin Bharasa, also his elder brother, assaulted him and tore his shirt Monday evening. He was in procession campaigning for his candidate Anwarul Hoque Maya.

Giving reason to his exceptional protest, he said, "The cadres won't be able to tear my shirt this time. I haven't put on shoes to run away quickly if they attack me again. Above all, I want to set a protest against Monday's incident."

On the election, he said it was not free and fare and alleged massive vote rigging at different centres.
