Fagun, a duet album by celebrated Indian singer Srikanta Acharya and Bangladeshi singer Mithu Aahmed, was released in a ceremonious programme at Hotel Purbani Friday last. Poet Belal Chowdhury formally unveiled the album cover in the presence of the chairman of Hotel Purbani, Azizur Rahman, Moazzem Hossain MP and singer Mithu Aahmed.

The album contains ten songs. The romantic lyrics by eminent Indian lyricists like Late Pulak Bondyapadhaya, Deboproshad Chakraborty and Dr Rajib Chakraborty will surely acquire audience's appreciation. The songs are tuned by Rajib Chakraborty except for the first one, Je fagun hothat ashey, which has been tuned by Mithu Aahmed's son Tanvir Haque Pritom.

A few numbers like Meghe dhaka shokalbela, Bojha na bojhar majhe, Tomar chokhey, Belowari jharbati have the most appealing lyrics. The compositions by Dr Rajib Chakraborti, have a blend of modern and traditional instrumental effects.

Srikanto is as always very good to listen to. Mithu's rendering is very appreciable only except in some places where her high pitched voice sounds a little monotonous.

Among the ten songs of the album, two songs have been repeated and one version of the songs are duets while the others are solos by Srikanta Acharya.

Although Mithu Aahmed is not a familiar name in our musical arena, she shows considerable talent in singing. Expatriated in

London for a long time, Mithu started her singing career at a very early age. Besides modern songs she also learned Ghazal, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet and Classical songs. Her first album Emon Ekti Pakhi was released in 1992. She has also rendered songs with popular Indian singers like Kumar Shanu and udit Narayan.

Released under the banner of Tona Tuni, a percentage of the sales of this album will be donated for the flood victims.
