Armymen in Khagrachhari Operational Area on Friday netted two operatives of anti-peace accord United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) for suspected links with the Monday's killing of a soldier in Baghaichhari, army sources said.

They also recovered a number of arms and ammunition and various other things.

Sources said Protulmoy Chakma, 20, son of Basanta Chakma has been suspected of being involved in killing the army soldier in Baghaichhari.He hailed from Bongo Itoli in Baghaichhari upazila under Rangamati district. The other one identified as Binoy Tripura, son of Morottu Tripura, is from Matiranga in Khagrachhari.

A special team of armed forces raided terrorist hideouts in Gorgoj j achhari area near Khagrachhari town following a lead in the early hours of Friday. They faced resistance from the terrorists, who opened fire on them at around 3:00 am. The army team returned fire and at one stage nabbed two of the terrorists. The others, however, managed to escape in the dense jungle, sources said.

Immediately after extracting some information from the two arrested, armymen combed the area and seized two SMGs, two homemade guns, three rifles, 15 bullets, eight sets of fatigues, 29 pieces of blankets, stationery, 12 yards of electric wire, eight information registers, diary of atop UPDF leader, seven dossiers and drugs worth about Tk 5000, sources said.

The arrested were handed over to police, who later sent them to court, said Assistant Sub Inspector Obaidullah yesterday.
