The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will submit the charge sheet in the Ahsanullah MastcrMPmurdercasconJulylO.

The four-member CID team, which is probing the gruesome killing of the Awami League (AL) lawmaker, has already prepared a draft of the charge sheet.

Sources close to the team said some 25 people, including 15 of the 18 accused in the first information report (HR), would be charged with the murder.

Ahsanullah Master, also the executive president of Shramik League, and a schoolboy named Omar Paruq Ratan were killed and at least five others injured on May 7 when some 20 gunmen opened fire on a rally of AL's volunteer wing Scchchltasebak League at Noagaon near the legislator's house infbngi.

Experts of the Home Ministry Monitoring Cell yesterday approved the memorandum of evidence (ME).

"We'll submit the charge sheet after Superintendent of Police and Public Prosecutor of Gazipur approves the memorandum of evidence," Assistant Superintendent Khalequzzaman, leader of the team, told The Daily Star yesterday.

The CID team hopes to get the approval today.

The slain lawmaker's brother Motiur Rahman lodged the case accusing 17 people of the murder. He named Nurul Islam Sarker, leader of the ruling party's youth front Jubo Dal as the mastermind.

State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar on May 24 ordered the investigation officer to complete the probe immediately and submit the charge sheet in a month.

He also ordered the police to arrest all the FIR named killers.

Police so far have managed to arrest only three accused --Mahbub, Monir and Dulal. Including

the alleged mastermind Nurul Islam Sarkar, the accused on the run are Nurul Islam Dipu and his brothers Shahidul Islam Shipu and Ohidul Islam Tipu, Kana Hafiz, Ratan Mia, Anowar Hossain Anu, Sohel, Shohagh, Jahangir, Al Amin, Faisal, Rony, Bulu Mia and Syed Ahmed Majnu.

Mahbub, one of the three arrestees, has confessed to his participation in the murder and confirmed that Nurul Islam Sarker had masterminded the killing.

Besides those three, police have detained four suspects --Nasiruddin, Suman, Oli Mian and Qaiyum and a North Badda landlord Kabir Hossain, who sheltered the three accused.

The CID source, however, refused to confirm whether police would press charge against Nurul Islam Sarker.

"We will press charge against everyone we have found to be involved in the killing. We won't wait further for their arrest and the court may run their trial in absentia," said Khalequzzaman.
