An accused in Chittagong arms haul on April 2 was sent to jail custody on completion of a two-day remand here yesterday.

During the interrogation, Jasim Uddin divulged the names of twelve more persons involved in offloading of the consignment of deadly weapons, police said. Jasim is also involved in other smuggling usually carried out through Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL) jetty on different occasions, sources said.

Police suspected that a section of security personnel entrusted with the security of CUFL Jetty might be involved in the arms haul.

They said smuggling through CUFL jetty was not possible without the knowledge of all the security personnel as there was a restriction on the arrival of wooden cargo-vessels at the jetty.

However, CID police was now examining the information squeezed from Jasim during the remand, sources said.

Jasim was arrested from the residential area of neighbouring Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company (KAFCO) on Saturday evening and placed on remand on Sunday.
