Academic and administrative activities at Chittagong University (CU) were disrupted yesterday as pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) enforced a strike on the campus demanding punishment to the killers of one of its leaders.

Scheduled classes and examinations were suspended due to the strike.

The BCL activists put up barricade at Battali and Sholoshahar stations and blocked university shuttle trains plying to and from the city while university buses moved with few students and teachers.

They also staged a sit-in on Chittagong-Rangamati approach road.

The BCL will hold a procession and a rally on the campus tomorrow to realise their demands.

The Pro-Jamaat-e-Islami Islami Chhatra Shibir cadres allegedly led by Habib Khan gunned down Ali Mortuza Chowdhury, senior vice-president of the BCL, CU unit, in Chhararkul area under Hathazari upazila on December 29, 2001.

However, police failed to nab any of the six accused in the case.
