Bagerhat CID has started reinvestigation into the sensational Awami League leader Advocate Kalidas Boral murder case.

The reinvestigation began on Sunday by Inspector Shawkat Ali as investigation officer.

Senior vice-president of Bagerhat district Awami League and former chairman of Chitalmari Upazila Advocate Kalidas Boral was gunned down on August 20, 2000 at Shadhana square under Sadar thana.

Former OC Shahidul Islam submitted charge sheet against 22 accused. Five of them confessed to their involvement in the killing before the court.

But the case was transferred to the CID for reinvestigation after a directive from the police headquarters on October 4 this year.

The police headquarters sources said the case has been transferred to CID in view of inability of the local police to properly investigate the case.

The public prosecutor of Bagerhat, Advocate Noor Mohammad said the IO can not be changed without permission of the court. Because, the case was under trial, he said.

Happy Boral, wife of slain Kalidas Boral, gave testimony to the court of District and Sessions Judge, Bagerhat implicating Sheikh Helal MP and Chitalmari AL General Secretary Pijush Kanti Roy in the murder case.

Court ordered Sadar thana OC to submit a report on the investiga-

tion following an appeal by government prosecutor.
