Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman will place the national budget for the fiscal 20032004 in the Jatiya Sangsad on June 12.

It would be the ninth budget to be placed by Saifur and the second of the coalition government.

According to Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, everything is set for the budget to take place and eighth session of the eighth parliament to begin at 7:00pm on June 10.

The Parliament Advisory Committee will meet on June 10 to finalise the proceedings of the session.

Members of Parliament have submitted 1,634 questions to the parliament secretariat, of which 96 for the prime minister and 1,538 for ministers.

The secretariat has received four bills till yesterday. The bills are Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (amendment) Bill 2003, Bangladesh Sericulture Board (amendment) Bill 2003, Bangladesh Silk Research and Training Institute

Bill 2003 and Criminal Procedure (amendment) Bill 2003.

The secretariat has 10 more bills of last session, which are expected to be placed in this session.

Five of those bills are concerned with salaries, allowances and financial benefits of the prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker, ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and Members of Parliament. Four bills are on establishment of engineering university in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna and Gazipur and one bill is on Civil Procedure (amendment) Bill 2003.

The government may place more bills in the House during the session, sources said.

Members of Parliament have so far submitted 114 notices, of which 76 are adjournment motions under section 62, two for general discussion under section 68 and 36 others under section 71 of the Rules of Procedure.
