A junior police officer was transferred from the capital to one of the remotest areas as a top brass became mad at him on a trivial personal ground.

An assistant superintendent of police (ASP) was transferred to Betagi under Barguna district from the Immigration Department at Zia International Airport (ZIA) by a top police official due to an 'error' which had nothing to do with his job, sources said.

Sources at both the police department and airport immigration said a man claiming to be a friend or relative of the top police official flew in at ZIA on March 28 noon from London. The man gave the ASP a bouquet and told him to hand it over to the official, as he had to fly again to Sylhet.

The ASP then informed the top official that he had received the bouquet but he could not get out of the airport as he was on duty. Besides, there was no transport to send the bouquet.

The top police official then asked the ASP to give it to him after work.

Meantime, the ASP managed a vehicle and sent the bouquet through a constable. The top official became very angry as the flowers slightly dried. He phoned and asked the ASP how it became dry.

The ASP explained that the flowers were brought from London and then it was at the airport for several hours. But the top official was not pleased with the explanation.

He then closed the ASP from the airport the following day (March 29) and issued a transfer order the day after (March 30).

The transfer to the remote area has created resentment among police officers as most of them consider the act 'illogical and unjust'.

Sources said the ASP was stationed at the airport for about a month and he was scheduled to continue at the immigration for two more months.
