Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accused in the MiG-29 Purchase Scam Case, will appear in the Special Court for Dhaka Division today for bail, sources said.

She will appear in the court at about 10.30 am.

The Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAC) submitted a charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM's) Court, Dhaka, on January 29 against Hasina and six others.

The CMM's Court then sent the case to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka for trial.

The Sessions Court on Thursday

took the charge sheet into cognizance and transferred it to the Special Court for its disposal.

In the case filed with Tejgaon police station on December 11, 2001, it was alleged that Sheikh Hasina along with four top defence officials caused the public exchequer count Tk 700 crore ($123 million) in loss in the purchase of eight MiG-29 fighter jets.

The six others are former Air Fore chief Jamaluddin Ahmed, former defence secretary Syed Yusuf Hossain, former Army chief Mustafizur Rahman, Air Commodore (retd) Mirza Akhter Maruf, former joint secretary Mohammad Hossain Serniabat and Unique Group Managing Director Nur Ali.

Charges against Brigadier General (retd) Iftekhar-ul-Bashar and former deputy secretary Hasan Mahmood Delwar were dropped on ground of insufficient evidences.

Later, charges were brought against the former army chief, the air commodore, the former joint secretary and the businessman as the enquiry suggested theirinvolvementin the scam.

Earlier, former Air chief Jamaluddin Ahmed and ex-secretary Syed Yusuf Hossain were granted ad-interim bail by the High Court.
