The heavy security around South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung led to a clash with officials of football's world governing body FIFA after the host nation's historic victory over Poland on Tuesday.

A FIFA spokesman said friction arose when the president wanted to visit the Korean team's dressing room at the stadium in Busan to congratulate them on their 2-0 victory, the nation's first win ever at a finals.

"We understand that after the game, the president of Korea wanted understandably to go to the dressing room to congratulate the team, as is his right," spokesman Keith Cooper told a press conference on Wednesday.

"That led to some confusion in the area around the dressing room.

"We have had explanations and KOWOC (the Korean World Cup organising committee) have apologised. We hope this will not happen again and that Kim will have other opportunities to visit the matches," he added.

The president had attended the match with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.

WRIGHT OR WRONG?

Costa Rica centre back Mauricio Wright caused problems for more people than the China defence on Tuesday.

Wright, scorer of Costa's Rica second goal in their 2-0 win, played throughout in a shirt with his name spelt "WRIGTH."

"Maybe there's a story behind that," said the match commentator.

FIFA communications director Keith Cooper attempted to clear up the confusion on Wednesday.

He said the player's club, the San Jose Earthquakes, spelt the name Wright. In the list of names received from the Costa Rica federation it was spelt Wrigth.

Two captions from the same photograph taken at a Costa Rica versus Uruguay match had the name spelt both ways.

"So we then went to an internet search," Cooper said.

The search found eight references to Mauricio Wrigth and 2,440 references to Wright.

"My guess is spell it how you like," he concluded.
