Share trading of 11 Beximco companies may resume today as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to withdraw its suspension on the companies.

The SEC, however, instructed the bourses to obtain the two key price sensitive information on AGM and book closure dates and disseminate them to the investors before resuming trading.

The SEC came to the decision after a meeting with different institutional investors and bourse high-ups.

Sources said the investors and bourse members appreciated the SEC for its action, but it was requested to withdraw trading suspension as it would increase suffering of the investors.

"Investors will suffer because of low dividends offered by Beximco, but the suspension would further hurt investment," a meeting member told this correspondent.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, SEC Chairman Maniruddin Ahmad said the two other companies Bangladesh Lamps and Wata Chemicals came up with satisfactory explanations and also announced AGM and book closure dates.

Meantime, the Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies yesterday denounced

the decision of the SEC to suspend share trading of 11 Beximco companies.

In an emergency meeting, the association observed that the SEC unilaterally suspended trading of the 11 companies, shattering confidence of the issuers and investors, and causing serious damage to the capital market.

In a press statement yesterday, the association said it is not clear for whose benefit the SEC took the decision.

"We are shocked to observe that the unilateral action was taken on the ground that the companies concerned did not announce dates of book-closure and AGM, none of which are price sensitive information," the statement said.
