The government has taken up an 'action plan' containing stringent measures to check unfair means in public examinations.

The measures include installation of close circuit camera in trouble-prone examination centres, cancellation of the centres as well as Monthly Pay Order (MPO) for teachers and educational institutions in case of detection of unfair means.

Besides, examinees found carrying 'unwanted papers' even if those are not linked with question papers will be expelled.

This was announced by State Minister for Education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon yesterday.

A campaign to implement the plan will be conducted in nine areas across the country. As part of the campaign, the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Sylhet and the district administration organised a seminar and an exchange of views session at the divisional town yesterday.

Speaking at the seminar on 'Holding Examination in a Cheating-free Atmosphere and Development of Standard of Education and Management', the state minister directed officials concerned to finalise a list of trouble-prone examination centres immediately and take steps to install close circuit cameras there.

" Cheaters and unruly students would be found out using such cameras", he declared.

Teaches who will be found helping examinees in cheating will also be expelled immediately.

He felt that carrying illegal arms and carrying unwanted things for cheating in examinations are similar crimes.

The state minister also said printing of note books that are helpful for cheating would be banned soon. Special examination halls would be set up in each upazila to conduct examinations throughout the year, avoiding disruption in classroom education.

In the coming HSC examinations, none without an entry pass from DC would be allowed to enter a centre during examination. Only the MP concerned and teachers would be issued entry pass.

"Police would not be deployed during public examinations in near future and the teachers have to take control of the situation," he noted.

Haque said six language institutes would be set up soon in the divisional headquarters for development of skill in English language.

Madrassah education system would be revised to make it 'more scientific' and a 13-member committee has already been formed for this, he mentioned.

Prof ANAA Mahbub Ahmed, Principal of MC College, gave the keynote speech on the topic of the seminar while chairman of the Sylhet Board Prof Muhammad Abdur Rahman presided.

The other speakers included Mawlana Fariduddin Ahmed Chowdhury, MP; AKM Shamsuddin, additional commissioner of Sylhet Division and Dr. AKM Helaluzzaman, DC of sylhet.

Heads of different educational institutions took part in the exchange of views.
