strike force and rush to the place of extortion, snatching etc. in any part of the city at short notice. Members of the special task forces would be equipped with sophisticated weapons and adequate number of vehicles so that they can move easily and quickly.

The task force would be on call round the clock and its members would have no other duties.

The sources said task forces would also be formed gradually in other big cities like Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal.

Committee member Law Minister Moudud Ahmed, Food Minister Abdullah Al Noman, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas, Education Minister Osman Faruque, Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babor attended the meeting. High civil and police officials were also present.
