Participants at a workshop in Ra-jshahi yesterday said that the success in poverty alleviation and sustainable development depends on the high economic growth.

I hey said the country will require eight to ten per cent growth in economy to achieve these objectives.

The daylong public consultation workshop on sustainable development was jointly organised by the Rajshahi Divisional administration, Ministry ol I orest and Environment, l ocum of Environmental Journalists of Bangladesh (FEJB) and NagarikSamaj.

Inaugurating the workshop, Rajshahi city mayor Mijanur Rahman Minu stressed the need for national consensus and strong regional and international cooperation to ensure sustainable development in the country.

Presided over by Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of FEJB, the inaugural function was also attended by Mohammad Shajahan, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi, Dr. Mahluzul Haq. deputy secretary of the ministry of forest and environment and Di Babar Kabir, coordinator of SEMI’.

High district officials, political leaders, university and college teachers, journalists, businessmen, representatives of NGOs. farmers and workers of 16 districts of Rajshahi Division look part in the workshop
