Female activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of ruling BNP, locked in a scuffle with the security personnel of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on the Amar Ekushey Book Fair premises at Bangla Academy yesterday.

The female JCD activists floored an official of the Special Security Forces (SSF) and pushed away the police officials when they were barred from visiting the stalls at the fair along with the prime minister.

At least six female workers of the JCD abused and threatened to 'sack' the security personnel at the time of the incident, according to witnesses. An SSF officer was seen apologising to the furious female JCD workers, the witnesses added.

After the formal inauguration of the book fair, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia along with her cabinet colleagues, members of the parliament and eminent cultural personalities headed towards some stalls.

A number of JCD workers, including the female activists,followed her, while some were already with her. After a while, the SSF men stopped them from proceeding further.

At this, the six 'unlucky' JCD workers including Rehana Akhter Ranu and Shammi Akhter, two leaders of the now suspended central committee of the JCD, got involved in a scuffle with the security personnel.
