TO further the cause of theatre and bring about quality changes in theatrical production, Bengal Foundation and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation have jointly drawn up a decade-long programme titled Development of Theatre in Bangladesh.

The development programme covers each and every district of the country and to implement the long drawn programme an agreement was signed between chairman of Bengal Group Abul Khair and Sara Zaker of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation on December 27, 2001 in the presence of eminent theatre personalities Ramendu Majumdar, Mamunur Rashid and Liakat

Bengal Foundation, a patron of art and culture, promotes and nurtures art and music in the country, considers such an initiative significant. It intends to expend Taka 13 lakh on the first year of decade-long theatre development programme.

This grand programme is divided into five specific areas where the support is intended a) quality theatrical production, b) technical support in conducting activities of new theater groups, c) holding workshop; e) organising theatre conventions at divisional level and finally f) building theatre stage and other infrastructure development for the cause of theatre.
