The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday confirmed that the demand for investigation into the alleged involvement of Syed Mahmud Ali, the current chief of BBC's Bangla Service, in the bloody political changeover in 1975, is being taken up with the BBC authorities in London.

"Our London mission is looking into the matter," a top source at the ministry told BSS last night.

The government earlier decided to investigate the alleged involvement of Ali in the bloody political changeover in 1975 in which father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders were assassinated.

The Information Ministry also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately take up the issue with the BBC higher authorities so that they take action against Ali, paving the way for investigation into the crime he claimed to have committed.

Ali, a former Pakistan Army officer, in a recent interview clearly confessed that despite being aBangalcc he fought for the Pakistan Army as one of its members against thccountry'sWar of Liberation.

1 Ie also confessed to being present at the Dhaka Radio Station on the fateful night of August 15,1975, the day Bangabandhu was brutally killed.'

Besides, he stated that as per the directives of Khandker Mustaque Ahmed he arrested Tajuddin Ahmed, the country’s first prime minister who headed the Mujibnagar government. Tajuddin Ahmed was killed in Dhaka Central Jail along with three national leaders on Novembers, 1975.

The Ministry of Information also urged the foreign ministry’ to pursue the matter with BBC and warned of terminating an agreement under which Bangladesh Betar regularly broadcasts 11 and a half hours of BBC programme everyday day on 1:M band.
