Chief Justice Latifur Rah-man yesterday stressed the need for early establishment of Human Rights Commission In the country as a watchdog against HR violations, reports UNB

It is good" that the law minister has regretted the delay In establishing the commission, he said, adding the sooner this Independent agency is established the better for protection of human rights.

The chief justice was talking at a discussion meeting in observance of the World Human Rights Dav. organised by (he Bangladesh Bar Council at the Supreme Court auditorium.

He called for creating awareness about human rights among the people and called upon the lawyers and the bar associations to play their due role.

Chief Justice Latifur Rahman also called upon Judges to see that a litigants human rights be protected.

In his presidential speech Barrister Amlrul Islam said 60 bar associations across the country had formed Human Rights Monitoring Cells and those are working actively to protect the rights of common citizens.

He told the meeting that 1500 lawyers had been trained in human rights with Danish funds.
