IU staff suspended

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia. Nov 10: An employee of Islamic University was suspended and three others were served show cause notices on Monday in connection with the October 14 incident In which at least 200 people w'ere injured in a clash between employees and students of the university.

Ruhul Amin Babu. Section Officer (Transport), was suspended and three employees- Faruq Hossain, Nazrul and Tuhin- were served show cause notices asking them why they will not be suspended by the authorities. The syndicate of the university look the decision. The emergency syndicate meeting was called by the newly appointed Vice Chancellor. Prof Lulfor Rahman. Meanwhile, a new 5-member probe committee was formed on the day lo investigate into the incident within three weeks. Agood number of police and BDR personnel were deployed on the campus to avert any clash.

Villagers attack police outpost

JHENIDAH. Nov 10: Villagers allegedly threw brickbats on a police outpost at Ramchandrapur under Shailakupa upazila here on Friday night when police asked them not to stage a drama wiih-out prior permission.

Body of woman found

SYLHCT. Nov' 10: Body of a woman was found at a residential hotel in the town on Tuesday. A young man and a woman. wrho introduced themselves as husband and wife, rented a room in Hotel Urmee in Dargah Gate area in the town on Monday.

According to the hotel register, they were identified as Sharmin, 34. and Kamal. 38. of 265 South Kamalapur. Dhaka. Police said the woman was slaughtered. The body was sent io Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy- Whereabouts of the man could not be known.

Three hijackers held

MANIKGANJ. Nov 10: Three people were arrested from Sadar upazila on Monday in connection with hijacking of a microbus. reports UNB.

The arrested were identified as Hira Miah. 27. of Nayanagar village and Osman. 25. of Char Bausha in Daudkandi upazila of ComUla district and Alamgir. 24. of Muhammadpur in Dhaka. Police said local people caught them red-handed as they tried to sell a microbus. which they hired from a rent-a-car shop in Dhaka City's Shyamoli area on Sunday. They hijacked the microbus after making the microbus driver unconscious by feeding him intoxicated food. They were handed over to police.

Steps sought to prevent diarrhoea

Housewife killed by husband

LAXMIPUR. Nov 10: A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at Tiiltoli Bazar village In Ramgati upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.

Police said Shahjahan beat her wife Ayesha Khatun to death and then hanged the body from a tree to prove that she committed suicide. Villagers alleged that Shahjahan and his family members used to torture Ayesha for dowry. Shahjahan went into hiding after the Incident. A case was filed.
