11 schoolchildren buried alive:

Ai least 11 schoolchildren were believed lo have been buried alive in a landslide in the mountainous northern Philippines, police and the civil defence office said Friday, reports AFP.

Erosion from two mountains in remote Cabugao-Apayao town in Kal Inga-Apayao province resulted in the landslide that destroyed a number ofhouses on Wednesday, leaving at least 11 schoolchildren buried alive and three injured. Police said provincial officials and local residents had launched a rescue operation for those missing.

A group of suspected Bodo militants attacked the house of a hardcore NDFB militant at Gorokjull village In Sonitpur district Wednesday night while they were sleeping. The militant and his wife were shot dead while the Ultras fled under the cover of darkness lo the nearby Jungles, the sources said. In another incident, a hardcore NDFB militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Nalbari district.
