Despite not having convint -Ing credentials under our bells, we got the opportunity to play Test cricket only because of the ICC policy of spreading cricket across the world. We still feel embarrassed whenever our team play against any Testplaying country or even a non Test-playing country like Kenya.
Should we remain in the same place? NO. never. But. the question is how can we grow up to that desired standard? Let's ponder a bit. Do we have any good wicket? No. The first thing we need is to have 7/8 good wickets. Unless and until we could make lively wickets we should give up the hope of producing quality bowlers as well as playing good cricket. Unfortunately though, we are good at playing with wicket, not making wicket (the clash between the Football Federation and Cricket Board). If the sincerity is there, there will be no problem in making plenty of cricket grounds across the country. The stadiums of Chittagong. Rajshahi, Khulna. Mymensing. Comllla can easily be upgraded right away.
In most cases, our players could not do better because of their lack of basic knowledge. We do bring coaches, but their training could do a little help to the participants as majority of them has already reached at an age where very few can learn a new thing, let alone rectifying any technical flaws. Without proper foundation how can one play better? A good number of tiny cricketers now participate In school level tournaments. Selectors can pick players of future from those tournaments and bring them under longterm coaching. Sponsors can also play ven’ vital role in the development of cricket by setting up academies like MRF in India.
If we really want to improve our cricket, organisers can easily take those steps by prevail Ing over their personal benefits. It's unfortunate not to have many dedicated and honest organisers around. Otherwise, how could a leader try to snatch all the credits for Bangladesh's elevation to Test status? How a person with minimum integrity tends to forget the huge sacrifice of previous officials and the remarkable efforts of present and former cricketers? I wonder when we would be able get rid of this culture. Had we been properly educated and honest enough situations like this could not even arise.
When the BCB is in financial crisis, whais the point of wasting about Taka 25.00000 for an annual general meeting in Cox's Bazar It's our money which should not be used for merry-making. It should be spent only when it is necessary. We are scheduled to play our first ever Test in the early No-vember. It is already September 8 now. and we are not convinced yet that the ground (Bangabandhu National Stadium) would be returned to cricket on time.
There is no doubt we have achieved some successes. Still, we have miles to go. 1 urge the current cricket officials to be rational. They should place the country’s interest above that of their own. Refrain from blowing your own trumpet as we're watching who is doing what.
If the cricketers don't get proper support from authorities. they must take care of the practices on their own. I believe, hard work and perseverance never go awry. 1 know some talented cricket players who are addicted. Please don't waste your time but use it for your improvement. If we remain bn the right track, we would turn into a force to be reckoned with in a few years. I am eagerly waiting for that day.
