City dwellers in several areas experienced disruption in power supply for long periods yesterday but DESA officials said there was virtually no load shedding.

Officials at DESA's control room said there were only 40 MW "forced load shedding", mainly due to "weak transmission and distribution lines and mechanical problem in some transformers".

Sometime, repair work takes several days, they said.

Sources in DESA (Dhaka Electric Supply Authority) and PDB (Power Development Board) said the situation is unlikely to improve soon as demand for electricity rises with rise in temperature.

When his attention was drawn to disruption in supply in certain areas including Kawran Bazar for 4-5 hours every day for the last few weeks, one source said this Is because DESA’s transformer at Ulan Is not functioning for long. Due to this, power supply is being dis-rupted in areas Including Dhanmondl, New Elephant Road. Shahbagh. Magbazar, Shajahanpur. Mughem para. Basabo, Rampura. Kawran Bazar Kathal Bagan and Green Road, he said.

Supply is disrupted in posh areas like Gulshan. Banani and Uttara clue to transmission problem . he claimed.

The PDB supplied 960 MW power to DESA yesterday against a demand lor over 1000 MW in its command area, the sources said.

PDB sources said total power generation In the country yesterday was 2625 MW against a requirement of around 2750 MW.
