Authorities of Sallmullah Hall of Dhaka University are going to cut down the 'unplanned' trees of the hall and use those to prepare furniture for the residents of the hall.

According to a decision taken at a Paribesh Parishad meeting of the hall last year, the hall authorities have already felled down two mango trees on Thursday.

"We cut the trees not for sale but to give the hall a shape.” Prof RIM Aminur Rashid. Provost of Salimullah Hall said yesterday.

"We took the decision as some trees grew up in an unplanned way that damaged the walls and main structure of the hall," the provost said adding, "we are doing these as part of the renovation of the hall.”

The hall authorities also decided to plant some valuable trees In the hall lawn to preserve the greenery of the oldest hall of the university.

Following the felling of two trees by the hall authorities, the BCL leaders of the hall unit, who have earlier cut down and sold out some hall trees, hanged a letter at the hall gate that asked "Where are the environmentalists now?”
