Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria yesterday strongly condemned a local dally newspaper for publishing “totally false and concocted^ news items on the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the finance minister, reports BSS.

Reacting to what he called "nefarious attempt by the Bangla Bazar Patrlka" the finance minister told newsmen that the reports published in the last two days by the daily were totally false and concocted

"The news Items mentioned a letter of NBR Chairman but 1 do not know the existence of such letter. No such letter was sent to the Prime Minister or to me." he said.

He said, "When I saw the report 1 was not surprised because publication of such false and concocted report was nothing new for Bangla Bazar Patrlka.’

The minister told newsmen that In 1998 the Press Council In a verdict on a news item published by Bangla Bazar Patrlka said "The Publisher and editor of the newspaper has made up story which Is false and de void of facts. The news item was published as an evil design to deliberately and publicly harass Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria."

He said according to the Press Council this newspaper had "broken the ethics of journalism."

The Finance Minister said the publisher and editor of Bangla Bazar Patrlka is still continuing to publish imaginary. false and defamatory re-ports. "I do not have language to protest such nefarious attempt. I think such journalism which is being practised by Bangla Bazar Patrlka is razing (ne standard the Journalism to the ground." he said.
