Leaders of Bangladesh Muk-tijoddha Sangsad (BMS). an organisation of the freedom fighters, yesterday alleged that the government is Involved in a competition of plundering public assets.

They alleged that a chaotic | situation is prevailing in the country as the government is I marring the fundamental ► democratic rights of the people through killing, creating terror and kidnapping.

During a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium yesterday, the leaders of BMS. one of the factions of freedom fighters, complained that many anti-liberation people had been given room in the cabinet although it had come to |xjw< t with a promise to try war criminals. They said that the Awami League (AL) government have failed to run the country in Une with the spirit of liberation war although it very often claims itself as the sole agent' of liberation war.

Referring to various steps against the freedom fighters taken by the government, the BMS leaders said the conspiracy to destroy popularity of the freedom fighters started during the post-liberation regime. A huge number of freedom fighters were killed at that time due to difference in political opinions.

Pointingout the recent Tan-f;ail Incident, they said that po-Ice have tortured a renowned freedom fighter Kader Slddique and demanded judicial inquiry into the matter.

The leaders also urged removal of what they termed as an illegal occupier' of BMS central command council. Ahad Chowdhury, from the organisation and demanded election at all levels of the organisation after preparation of a list of genuine freedom fighters.

They also demanded setting up of a separate ministry for the freedom fighters and implementation of their nine-point charter of demands that include the election of the central command council through secret ballots of the councillors at different levels of the organisation, special arrangement for free treatment of the freedom fighters at all public hospitals and free education for their wards.
