Former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal, who is the event manager for the next week's limited-overs match between the Asia Eleven and the Rest of the World Eleven, arrived in the capital yesterday afternoon.

The day-night match, organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as part of its ongoing Cricket Week celebration. will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on April 8.

A frequent visitor in Dhaka. Asif was also the event manager of the Wills International Cup held at the same venue in 1998.

Upon his arrival. Asif said that he would take a day or two to asses every thing relating to the match and he would then meet the press.

Asif apart. Isabelle Wood, the personal assistant of ICC chief executive David Richards, also arrived here from London last night.

Legendary West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh will be honoured by the Bangladesh

Cricket Board (BCB) when the record Test wicket-taker arrives Ln the capital for the April 8 match between Asia Eleven and Rest of the World Eleven.

BCB general secretary’ Syed Ashraful Huq revealed it yesterday.

Playing in his 114th Test, the 37-year-old Jamaican became the highest wicket-taker last week when he captured his 335th scalp during the second Test against Zimbabwe at the Sabina Park in Kingston.

Talking to the press. Ashraful said. BCB Is planning to give him a crest and some other mementoes during his visit to Dhaka for the first time.

Walsh' was not initially named in the 12-man Rest of the World Eleven announced by the ICC last month. It was his long-time partner Curtley Ambrose who was named in the squad. He was drafted in the side when Ambrose declared himself unavailable few days back.

petition. organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board as part of the ongoing International Cricket Week 2000. will be held at the National Sports Council gymnasium from 9am to 12 noon on Friday.

The competition will be held in three age groups-- under-6, under-10 and under-16.

Interested participants have been asked to bring their own boards and colours. BCB will provide the art papers.

Winners of the each groups will be awarded with attractive prizes.

Mymensingh

In observance of the ICC Cricket Week, a grand rally was brought from Mymensingh Stadium at 11.45 am today.

Hundreds of people Including students and players of different clubs joined the rally.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board, led the procession.

The rally was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam and district sports association officials.
