A seven-member delegation of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD). student wing of main opposition BNP. yesterday returned from the Home Secretary's office without submitting a memorandum to the Home Secretary as scheduled earlier.

Talking to Journalists later, the delegation members claimed that they did not submit the memo, demanding immediate release of all arrested JCD leaders and activists, as they had been told to submit it through the Secretary's personal assistant. The JCD leaders expressed their disappointment in not being able to submit the memo to him in person.

JCD brougilt out a procession from the Dhaka University campus at around 1 1 am in the morning and marched towards the Home Ministry to submit the memorandum as part of their planned programme.

Police intercepted the procession near the High Court building where it held a rally. Addressing the rally, the leaders demanded immediate release of all JCD men including its President Habib-un-Nabi Sohel. General Secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu,

Mahbubul Haq Nannu. Ishaq Sarkcr. Zakir Khan and Helal.

They blamed the Awami League government foi* arresting JCD activists and leaders throughout the country by filing false cases against them.

"It is a deep rooted conspiracy of the ruling party to curb the opposition's democratic movement", acting president Monjur Elahl told the gathering.

The leaders also blamed the ruling party backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for having ousted JCD men from all dormitories of Dhaka University and carrying out different anti-social activities including kidnap and drug business on the campus.

After the rally, a sevenmember delegation went to the Home Secretary's office to submit the memorandum. The JCD leaders returned without submitting tire memo.

When contacted last night. Home Secretary M M Reza however said that the did not know anything regarding the memorandum and had not been Informed of such an incident either.
