Replying to a starred question from Fazul Azim (Noakhali), an opposition BNP member (now boycotting the Sangsad session) State Minister for Information Prof Abu Sayeed informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the advertisement policy guideline was formulated in 1983 by the government. In the absence of the member the question was raised by a treasury bench man, report's BSS.

The guideline was amended later on in the year 1987 with a view to developing newspapers' quality and standard of adherence to objectivity, values of the independence war and on top of all for facilitating and implementing the Wage Board Award.

In 1998 the government further incorporated the policy of upholding the values of the Liberation War and the distribution of advertisement based on the aforementioned guideline has been vested with the Department of Films and Publications (DFP). Prof Sayeed added.

He also answered to some supplementary questions relating to the advertisement distribution amongst the national and influential regional dailies and periodicals.
