London. March [2. Holders Manc-{hestcr United beat I'French champi ons Bordeaux 2-0 In a European Champions League Group B clash al Old Trafford on Wednesday with Welsh winger Ryan Giggs and England International Teddy Sherlngham grabbing the goals, reports AFP.

Giggs clinically finished in the six-yard box three minutes before the interval following a superb David Beckham cross -the England midfielder having gone close himself earlier with a free-kick that rattled the visitors' bar.

The Welsh international then turned provider for the second after 84 minutes, weaving Ills way past three defenders before crossing for Sherlngham to head home.

Bordeaux keeper Ulrich Rame. who was capped by France in a European Championship qualifier with Andorra last June, was caught out of position for both goals.

Bordeaux should have equalised on 59 minutes with United one goal ahead when Sylvain Wiltord released Lilian Laslandcs on the right with United appealing for an offside flag in vain.

Laslandes. with home 'keeper Ralmond van der Gouw advancing, should have scored but opted to square the ball to Wiltord Instead of attempting a finish himself.

The pass was overhit and the stretching Wiltord could only find the side netting.

The kick-off was put back 45 minutes to 2030 GMT because of serious road congestion in the Manchester area.

United almost took the lead on 16 minutes when Beckham's swerving free-kick crashed, against the crossbar with Sher-ingham just failing to reach the rebound. Bordeaux constructed a line move down their left after 23 minutes.

Jerome Bonnissel sent Laslandes dear and his ball across the goal found Wiltord. who delayed his shot and saw the effort blocked by Dennis Ir win.

The home side finally got the goal their attacking flair merited on 42 minutes.

Beckham's cross from the right was met perfectly by Giggs at the near post, who flicked his shot Into the bottom corner with Rame appearing to get his angles all wrong.

Bordeaux started the second

half determined to strike back quickly and after Just 47 minutes they almost achieved that aim.

Herve Alicarte's header from 12 yards flashed wide of the post when he should have hit the target.

But Bordeaux should have equalised on 59 minutes when Wil lord spurned an excellent chance with his partner for club and country Laslandes better placed to score.

Bordeaux were striving to get back Into the game and had plenty of possession as United were forced to defend in their own half.
