The founder Executive Director of BRAC Fazle Hasan Abed has said that in terms of longterm societal transformation not a single intervention will be as significant as the promotion of education of girls in the thousands of villages across Bangladesh, says a press release.

People from all corners of society must be mobilised to see the necessity of educating their daughters, he said.

Abed was speaking as a keynote speaker at the World Bank Girls Education Event in Washington on Tuesday evening. The main objective of the event was to recognize the bank staff who have worked effectively to bring about significant improvement in girls education.

Abed also said that BRAC had sought not only to provide primary education to more than one million girls in Bangladesh but has also been a pioneer in a mass mobilisation I hat has involved the government. civil society, community leaders and. most importantly, the parents and teachers of the girls themselves.
