At least 90 people were injured in pre-hartal violence in Feni. Rajshahl and My-mensingh yesterday.

Our correspondent reported from Feni that at least 50 Jubo Dal and JCD leaders and activists were injured when a group of unidentified gunmen fired shots on a pro-hartal pro-

cession at Pangacla Road in the town at about 5 pm.

The procession was brought out by the youth and student fronts of BNP in support of the opposition-called 36-hour countrywide hartal demanding scrapping of the Public Safety Act.

According to witnesses, the shots were fired when the procession was passing through Pangacia Road. The Injured Include district JCD president Yakub Nabi.

After the incident, angry Jubo Dal and JCD activists barricaded th< Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Kampur. It was not lifted till writing of this report at 7 pm yesterday.

District Jubo Dal president Syed Mizanur Rahman in a statement blamed the ruling party-backed Chhatra League activists for the attack.

UNB adds from Rajshahi: Clashes between BNP activists and Awami League activists and police left at least 30 people injured in Rajshahi town yesterday.

Witnesses said the clashes ensued when BNP activists hurled brickbats at police and smashed windows ot the Mercantile Bank at Shahebbazar.

During the hour-long clashes police lobbed some 50 teargas shells and fired some warning shots to disperse the processionists, they said.

Ten people were injured, witnesses said. The procession- -ists paraded streets in Gangi-narpar. Trunk Potti. Chhoto Bazar and railway station areas.

They ransacked the office of a local newspaper. "Parichya." and damaged property of Uttara Bank Chhoto Bazar branch, the witnesses said.

Of the injured, condition of an unidentified vendor was stated to be critical.
