The prize distribution cere-many of the essay wilting competition. organised by Onited Nations Information Centre (UNIC). Dhaka in observance of the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh’s entry into the United Nations, was held on Monday at the UN conference room, says a press release.

Justice K M Sobhan attended as the chief guest Presided over by the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Werner Kiene the function was attended among others by Hemayetuddin. Director General. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Professor Nu-. rul Momen of Dhaka University as special guests. Dr Ansar All Khan. UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh was present as a guest of honour. Vote of thanks was given by the Officer-in-Charge of UNIC Kazi All Reza.

A total of ten cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the -winners. Written in vernacular Bangla the titled of the essay was the Role of United Nations In the Development Efforts of Bangladesh. Students from fifty-one colleges and universities of^angladesh took part In the competition.

Wahidul Islam Mamun, De-Cartment of Histoiw. Dhaka nlversity. got the first prize. Second prize was secured jointly by Md Shahidul Haque ’ of IER and Amina Sikdar of Singair College. Kazi Shamsuz-zaman of Jahangirnagar University and Rahima Akhtar of Professor Abdul Majid College, got the third prize.

Recipients of the Five special prizes were Nasrin Tahmina of Holy Cross College. Md Abdul Manik of Rajshahi University, Fardousi Sarker of Eden University College. Abu Ali Farmidi of Adamjee Cantonment College and Md Shajahan of Islampur College.

Muhammad Abdur Rouf, executive engineer of Roads and Highways Department, has been elected vice chairman of the Institution of Engineers. Bangladesh (IEB), Dhaka centre. reports UNB.

Rouf, also an elected secretary of IEBs Mechanical Engineering Division, got highest 1.083 votes.

He is associated with various socio-cultural and service ori-. ented organisations, including-/ Rotary International.
