COX'S BAZAR. Dec 31: An earthquake today rocked the sea resort town of Cox's Bazar and adjoining areas Including Moheshkhali. reports BSS.

The quake hit the town at 6.50 am and lasted about 40 to 45 seconds.

The people of Moheshkhali experienced the quake followed by a big bang. People came out of their houses in panic and took shelter in open places.

According to preliminary reports, at least 200 houses were damaged by the quake in Hoy-anak. Shaplapur and Kalarma Chhara areas.

This was the 5th earthquake that rocked Cox's Bazar In last six months.

Meanwhile. Chittagong and its -adjoining areas were also Jolted with a mild tremor this morning.

The tremor, which shook the city and its adjacent areas, was hardly felt by the residents when it lasted only 16 seconds from 6.53 am. the lone seismic observatory centre said.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located al 146 kin off the port city. The intensity of the quake could not be measured, the observatory sources adder!.
