Dhaka played without any particular purpose on the final day. leaving hosts Sylhet to remain content with two batting points In their first clash of the National League at the Sylhet Stadium yesterday.

The match ended in a predictable draw when Dhaka scored 172 all out in 84.4 overs in their second innings, thus preventing Sylhet the chance to bat again.

Sylhet however did gain two invaluable points by virtue of their first innings lead. Aided by a brilliant half-century from opener Parvez, the home side scored 255 in their first innings on the second day after restricting Dhaka to 206 in their first innings on Thursday.

Trailing by 49 runs. Dhaka started the last day with Al-Shahriar opening with plucky Javed. But the ploy to accelerate the score on a tricky wicket never paid oft.

Despite a brisk start by Al-Shahriar (39) and Javed (34). which produced 72 runs in 16.3 overs.- the visitors lost their way once left-arm tweaker Mohammad Rafique removed both batsmen in quick succession.

Skipper Aminul made 40 and Sanwar scored 28. But thereafter Dhaka disintegrated in the post-tea session, losing four wickets with the score on 167. Neeyamur Rashid was the wrecker-in-chief for Sylhet with five for 12 in 12.4 niggling overs. It included seven maidens.

But Parvez was named rhah-of-the-match ahead of Neeyamur.
