THE speed with which Bangladeshi art has progressed is quite astounding. The early masters of Bangladeshi art coped well with the '47 partition scenario psychologically and aesthetically to construct a symbolic foothold for our artistic pursuit. On the occasion of the 9 Asian art Biennial 1999. Shilpangan has arranged a ten-day long special painting exhibition of country's fifteen eminent artists from November 5. The show will remain open from 10am to 8pm dally till November 14. The show was inaugurated by Barrister Syed Ishtiaq. Artist Emdad Hossain presided over the function.

The exhibition includes seventy-five works from our internationally acclaimed, front ranking artists such as; Safiud-dln Ahmed, Mohammad Kibria. Aminul Islam. Abdur Razzaque, Qayyum Chowdhury, Syed Jahangir, Kazi Abdul Baset. Deb-das Chakraborty. Nitun Kundu. Samarjit Roy Chowdhury. Hashem Khan, Raflqun Nabi. Monirul Islam, Monsoor UI Karim, and Shahabuddln.

The exhibition is a part of the Biennial. The purpose of this type of exhibition is to give the art lovers a chance to have a look at the works of the senior artists of our country, other than the works at the competition. Previously this segment of works was exhibited along side the Biennial, and that's why this type of show failed to get its deserved attention. This sole exhibition out side the venue of the Biennial will Justly highlight the event. Due to the shortage of space the exhibition could not show much works before. this time the exhibition accumulates more works of the artists-5 works from each artist. Rare accumulation of such great works by such renowned artists is surely a treat for the art lovers. Each work, of art in the display evokes different feelings and emotions as different kind of musical composition evokes. One can feel the force of Sha-habuddln's woks. Hashem Khan's paintings generate a happy feeling, and the beautiful colour and symmetry of Nitin Kundu surely makes a mark on you. Each artist has a story to tell and surely tells it in their own way with different media, different style, and different motif. In all their creations. one can trace the history and growth of Bangladeshi modern art. Each creation has a story to tell and tells it beautifully.
