SIRAJGANJ. Nov 10: Eight candidates, including two from Awami League, submitted nomination papers for parliamentary by-election in the Sirajganj-5 Constituency today.

None from opposition BNP and Jamaat-e-lslami filed nomination.

Hasibur Rahman Swapan and Choyan Islam submitted nomination papers from the ruling Awami League. Other candidates are Anaul Wadud Khokan of Jatiya Party led by Ershad, Amirul Islam of Jatiya Party led by MonJu. Abdul Mohaimen of National Awami Party. Abdul Hye Sarker of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Ismail Hussain.

Two AL candidates submitted nomination papers separately. Hasibur Rahman Swapan who was voted to parliament on BNP ticket in the last general elections lost the seat, as he Joined the government of Sheikh Hasina. However, he secured nomination from the Awami league Tuesday.

Swapan. accompanied by several hundred supporters, filed nomination yesterday.

But the Sirajganj district unit of the AL refused to accept Swapan as their party candidate. District president Choyan Islam submitted nomination paper while general secretary Halimul Huq accompanied him. Several thousand supporters followed them to the office of the Returning Officer.
