A special squad of the Detective Branch of police recovered a large number of fake Tk. 500 and Tk. 100 currency notes and arrested three persons from the city's Mohammadpur and Jiga-tola areas in this connection Thursday night, police said.

The DB squad also recovered machines and materials used in preparing fake Bangladeshi and Indian currency notes during the operation.

Police identified the arrested as Jamil. Helal and Zaman.

Zaman told police that they had already produced fake notes worth about Tk 20 lakh and delivered them for circulation in the market last month. Zaman also admitted that his gang was supplying fake Indian currency to India.

Acting on a tip-off. the DB

squad arrested Helal from inside a drug shop at Saat Masjid Road under Mohammadpur thana on Thursday and recovered Tk. 200 Tk. 500 taka fake notes from him.

On the basis of Helal’s information. the police team arrested Jamil from a building at Monweswar Road in Jigatola. Computer, printer, photostat machine and papers with image of fake notes were also recovered from Jamil. Police said that Jamil was a diplomaholder in computer technology.

Police later raided the house of Zaman in the same area and recovered colour printer, cutting machine and other materials used for preparing fake Bangladeshi and Indian currency.

More 500 and 100 taka notes were recovered from Zaman s house. Police are interrogating the arrested. A case has been filed with Mohammadpur thana in this regard.
