LONDON. Oct 9: Sweden coach Tommy Soderberg said Friday he was determined not to disappoint England supporters when his side take on Poland in their final European Championship qualifier on Saturday, reports AFP.

Poland need just a draw in Stockholm to end England’s participation in the competition and move into the playoffs.

Soderberg insisted his team would not be giving the Poles an easy time, even though Sweden have already qualified for the Euro 2000 finals, to be held in the Netherlands and Belgium.

"We try never to speak in terms of winning or drawing but we go out and play as well as we can every time," said Soderberg.

"'We will be doing that against Poland. I can assure you we will be going flat out. We have a professional and a national pride and it is our intention to play as well as we can every time."

Jan Tomaszewski, who kept eoal for the Poles to deny Eng-md World Cup qualification in 1973. insists that his country lack the necessary experience to earn a draw in Sweden.

"I was in a better situation than the current Poland goalkeepers because 1 played with the defence all the time. I understood them and they understood me," he said.

"Today they dc-’t understand each other because they don't know who is going to be between the posts, though I think it should be Boguslaw Wyparlo. who was Lodz's goalkeeper against Manchester United earlier this season."

But Poland's current rearguard of Tomasz Waldoch. Jacek Zielinski and Tomasz Klos must cope with the attentions of an unlikely Swedish-goal-scoring hero if they are to usurp the English.

The Poles will face an inform Niclas Alexandersson after his two goals in two games ensured Sweden topped Group Five.

And with his most recent club performance ending in a 5-1 victory - Sheffield Wednesday’s first win of the season --confidence is higher than it has been all season for the 27-year-old winger.

Seven members of the Swedish squad have experienced football in England and Alexandersson is adamant that his home nation will give his adopted country a play-off berth.

"The most important thing for me was for Sweden to qualify. But living and playing in England. I would like to see them go through,’ said Alexandersson.

"England is such a big football country that for the interest of the tournament it's better If they are there.

"England have been in many of the big tournaments over the years and have a lot of experience. so it would be good if they were involved again.

"I reckon that come next summer, under Kevin Keegan, they would be a very strong side because they have so many good players.

"Everyone knows England can be a good team. They've maybe not been playing at their best in this qualification, but sometimes things can go like that.

"Sometimes you don’t perform as you would like to and that was the case for our last World Cup campaign.
