THEATER'S 30l h production Abdullah Al-Mamun's epic drama 'Meherjaan Arekbar' was performed again for the audience at the Guide House Stage .on Tuesday. September 07. 1999.

'Theater' first staged 'Meherjaan Arekbar' at the Public Library Auditorium on December 1. 1997. Since then the group has been staging the play through out the city on several occasions, which includes the performance at the drama festival. 'Shanka Joy er Nattya Utshab'. couple of months back.

The play, directed by Fer-dousi Majumdar, is a story of a homeless unfortunate woman representing the marginalised class of the society, but the message expressed through the play is universal.

The leading character of the play. Meherjaan. is deprived of her rights and possessions. The drama set in the liberation war in 1971, Meherjaan uprooted from her home because of the war drifts from one place to another with her husband and her only daughter. She is so unfortunate that even after the independence, she is deprived of her freedom and rights.

Before she could even feel what freedom is. she falls into the hands of the fundamentalists. The excruciating behavior of the Mullahs towards her

forces her to flee again. Arriving at the Dhaka city she takes shelter as a cook at a roadside restaurant, where her wondering life comes to an end. She begins to feel the essence of a steady life. But the fundamentalists darkens her life again. Eventually she becomes a victim of the Mullahs worth and pushed into a corner. But she decides to stand up and fight back with what she got.

The story of brave women made perceptible through some excellent and talented perfor-

mances of the Theater's entertainers including Abdullah Al-Mamun. Ferdousi Majumdar. Ramendu Majumdar. Tanvin Sweaty. Samiya Mohsin, Tropa Majumdar, etc.

The impressive stage was design by Hasan Ahmed. The background music composed by Jaglul Alam added an extra flavour to the play. The light acoustics directed by Jillur Rahman and dress design of Mohammed Dulal was an essential part in staging an outstanding drama.
