Relief for flood victims
TANGAIL. Sept 8: Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Tangail unit has taken a programme to provide relief to 1.000 families at the rate of 10 kg rice and two kg pulses per family, reports BSS.
Rabindra Mohan Saha. Secretary of the Red Crescent unit said, flood and erosion victims are given first priority for the relief. The distribution of foodgrains is on in full-swing, the secretary added.
Discussion on Sree Krishna
NETRAKONA. Sept 8: A discussion meeting on the life and teachings of Lord Sree Krishna organised by Netrakona District Puja Udjapan Parishad was held at Nara Singha Jeor Akhra temple here on the occasion of the Janmastami. reports BSS.

Two electrocuted
NAOGAON. Sept 8: Two people were electrocuted on Sunday night while fishing in a waterbody at Par Naogaon area, outskirts of the town, reports UNB.
Police said Abdul Jalil, 36, son of Dabiruddin. and Asmat All, 32, son of Abdur Rahman of the area, were fishing taking illegal connection from an electric pole. Suddenly they came in contact with the electric wire and died on the spot.
30 hurt in clash at Feni village
FENI, Sept 8: At least 30 people were injured in a clash between the 'terrorists' and villagers at Bhuiyarhat village in Sonagazi thana here on Monday, reports UNB.
The terrorists also damaged and looted three houses and allegedly insulted village women during the clash. Police and villagers said the clash ensued at about 9 am when alleged 'top terror’ and Jubo League leader Minto attacked the villagers as a sequel to Sunday's clash that left 10 people, Including his supporters. injured. The villagers chased the terrorists, who led by Minto attacked the villagers to establish supremacy in the area. Ten of the injured — Akbar. 32. Masud, 20. Harun. 32. 50 uplift projects implemented
NETRAKONA. Sept 8: Under the Annual Development Programme. Netrakona Pourashaba implemented 50 development projects in the 1998-1999 fiscal year, reports BSS.
Pourasabha sources said, about Taka one crore was spent for execution of the projects. Work of the development projects included construction of bridges, roads, drains, cremation centre, ladies' club and earthwork in mosques and madrasas.
53,500 VGF cards allotted
KISHOREGANJ, Sept 8: A total of 53,500 Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) special cards has been allotted in 107 unions and three pourasabnas in 13 thanas of the district for the month of August, September and October, reports BSS.
According to an official source, a total of 5,35.000 kilogram of rice will be distributed among 53,500 card holders here. Each card holder will get 10 kilogram of rice every month.
Vegetables farming on 3,100 hectares
CHUADANGA, Sept 8: Around 3,100 hectares of land have been brought under vegetables cultivation in four thanas here in the current summer season, reports BSS.
According to the Agriculture Extension Department, vegetables have been cultivated on 832 hectares in Chuadanga sadar thana. 780 hectares in Alamdanga thana. 950 hectares in Damurhuda thana and 514 hectares in Jibannagar thana. The -Agriculture Department has estimated that about 40.000 tons of vegetables including various leafy vegetables will be produced in the current season. About 30,000 tons of vegetables have already been produced.

24 shops gutted
MADARIPUR. Sept 8: Twenty-four shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Khowaspur Bazar in Sadar thana recently, reports BSS.
