LONDON. Aug 7 (Internet report): Peter Such underlined his great desire to earn another standing ovation in the third Test - but this time he wants to be recognised for his bowling by the enthusiastic Old Trafford crowd.

Such became possibly the first player in Test history to receive a standing ovation having suffered a duck after defying New Zealand's efforts to break up his stubborn partnership with Mark Ramprakash for 72 minutes.

Their determination enabled England to progress from 108 for five at the close of the first day to 199, but New Zealand's positive approach steered them to 71 runs of that total and they will resume on 128 for two.

Such's great resolve also enabled him to claim the unenviable record as the second longest Test duck in history behind Geoff Allott's 101-minute effort against South Africa in Auckland earlier this winter.

But it is his bowling Such would like to earn'an ovation for, particularly after enjoying previous appearances at Old Trafford - he claimed eight wickets on his Test debut against Australia here six years ago and 13 wickets in the County Championship game against Lancashire earlier this season.

"It was good to get out there and spend some time out at the crease and frustrate the opposition," said Such.

"That was the aim really, to bat as long as we could and pick up a few runs as well.

"I always seem to enjoy playing well here - perhaps the surface suits me. Sometimes you play better at some grounds than others, and this seems to be one where normally I do well at.

"It was the longest and probably the best duck of my career -I've had a few longer standing ovations than that, but it's the first time I ve had one for a nought."

After his great efforts with the bat. Such is optimistic he can add further wickets to his dismissal of New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming shortly before the close after he had scored a majestic 38.
