CHITTAGONG. Aug 7: Security has been tightened in the city's Halishahar area following death of three young men in a mob beating there last night.

Two others were also injured in the attack.

Police said two of the three dead were identified as Alamglr and Jahangir while another remained unidentified.

Police said people from a marriage ceremony nearby and surrounding areas in Halishahar caught the youths about at 8 pm When someone raised, hue and cry terming them as 'dacoits.'

They took them to a local school ground and tied up their hands and legs and beat them mercilessly, police added.

On receipt of information, police from port thana rushed to the spot and rescued the injured five.

Two of them succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital while another died soon after admission to the hospital.

A case was lodged with Port thana in this connection.

Police are yet to unearth the motive behind the killing.

None was arrested till filing of this report at 8 pm today.

Police interrogated one injured Taposh Mondal and sent him to the court today. Taposh told police that he had come from Dhaka to visit the seabeach and denied his involvement in any dacoity or terrorism, police said. Another injured Ramzan is still undergoing treatment in the hospital.

However, police said that there were allegations of terrorism against Alamgir.

Local sources informed that last night’s incident was a sequel to previous rivalry between Alamgir and some local youths.

When Alamgir along with some alleged terrorists attacked the local youths at about 8 pm last night, they shouted calling the attackers as 'dacoits' which drew the people from marriage ceremony nearby and surrounding areas, local sources added.

Alamgir died in the incident.
