Forty-nine people including an FIR-named accused were arrested yesterday in connection with the attack on a police camp near Gopibagh rail crossing in the city Friday night in which one policeman was shot dead and four others were injured.

The arrested FIR-named accused is Sattar. Twenty-four others named in the FIR are absconding. police said yesterday.

Constable Mohammed Mohshin of Riot Control Division (RCD). shot in the head during the attack, died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hos-Eital while SI Firoz and constales Rafiq. Kamrul and Azaher were admitted to Rajarbagh police hospital on Friday night.

Police said yesterday that over 150 people attacked the police camp at about 10 pm Fri-

day after a team of Sabujbagh police led by SI Rashidul Islam arrested Arman and Razia from a house in Gopibagh area.

Witnesses said yesterday that some local people had hurled bombs at police when they dragged the arrested persons onto the van. The police team left the spot immediately without chasing the attackers.

Local people alleged that Sabujbagh police had raided a house at Gopibagh, arrested the two persons and took away Tk. 2 lakh from them, which was collected through illegal drug trade.

The news of the arrest soon spread in the area and some people from Titipara, Sonar-gaon and some other slums attacked the police camp. Some of the attackers hurled crackers and fired several gun shots at the camp. Police also fired at least 10 shots and tear gas shells. A bullet pierced the forehead of Mohshin during the shootout which continued for about half an hour, police and witnesses said yesterday.

Mohshin was immediately rushed to the DMCH where attending doctor declared him dead. The body was handed over to police yesterday after autopsy at the DMCH. He was the son of Moslemuddin of Jaypurhat.

Police personnel were withdrawn from Gopibagh camp after the incident. There was no policemen at the camp yesterday. police said. A tense situation was prevailing in the area.

When asked whether police took away Tk 2 lakh from the two persons, the duty officer at Sabujbagh thana said he heard about it but could not confirm.

The body of Mohsin was sent to his village home after namej-.e-Janqja at the Rajerbagh Police Lines at about 12 pm yesterday.

Araman and Razia were produced before court yesterday. The court sent them to Dhaka Central Jail, police said.

Police lodged two separate cases with Motijheel thana in this connection.
