11.000 Trees of Osmany Udyan' has renewed its campaign to protect the park in the city centre yesterday, staging a march from the Udyan to Ramna Park to mobilise public support.

The leaders oPthe campaign also collected mass-signatures at the Ramna Park after holding a rally there, reiterating their demand for shifting of the proposed NAM convention centre from the Udyan.

Led by its convenor Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury, a teacher of the Dhaka University a gathering was held at the Osmany Udyan in the late afternoon. ignoring a drizzle.

Riot police watched the rally at the Udyan but did not intervene.Among others Professor Anisur Rahman, Poet Shamsur Rahman and left front leaders attended the rally.

Later they led the marchers down Gulistan, Paltan and Press Club to the Ramna Park where they collected signatures from people, urging the government to shift the convention site elsewhere and saving the last frontier open greenery between the old and new town.

The movement is planning to hold two more marches from the Osmany Udyan at 5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday to Shahbagh and Mallbagh bazaar where its leaders would also collect signatures from the citizens to gear up their demand to shift the proposed NAM convention centre.

On August 23 another march towards the prime minister’s office will begin from the national museum at 3 p.m.
