Humayun Kabir, a senior official in UNDP in New York and a Bangladeshi career UN staff has been appointed Director and Deputy Coordinator in the

Office of the Special Coordinator in the occupied territories, Gaza. He will take up his assignment in September, says a press release.

Kabir has been working in the UN system since 1977. Besides UNDP, he held professional posts In ILO and the UN International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP). He has contributed to social development issues through UNDP funded development cooperation activities in Bhutan, Afghanistan and Iran. He has also held important position in UNDP headquarters in New York and UNDCP headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Kabir is the eldest son of Begum and late Salamatullah, a former senior official in the government of Bangladesh. He is married and has two children
