Fisheries and Livestock Minister ASM Abdur Rob told the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday that the government would set up one Veterinary Hospital with modern facilities including provision for artificial insemination at the thana level, reports BSS.

Replying to a private member's resolution moved by Mohammad Mosharrof Hossain (BNP-Feni), Rob said the present government has given maximum emphasis on the development of fisheries and livestock sectors to attain self-sufficiency in protein and milk.

The minister pointed out that as a result of realistic measures for the promotion of the livestock sector, the country's import of powdered milk had come down to Tk 130 crore from Ik 450 crore. If the government measures are properly implemented the country would at-tain self-sufficiency in milk in no time, he said.

Mosharrof Hossain, however. withdrew his resolution at the assurance of the minister for setting up one modern Veterinary Hospital at Sonagazi.

Earlier. Abdul Latif Mirza (AL-Sirajganj). Shamsul Alam Paramanik (BNP-Naogaon), Mohammad Waziuddin Khan (AL-Pabna), ABM Abul Kashem (AL-Chittagong), Mohammad Shahidul Islam (BNP-Jhenidah). Prof Shahidul Islam (BNP-Kushtia). Panchanon Biswas (AL-Khulna). and Kazi Sekandar Ali (AL-Khulna) moved amendments to the resolution demanding similar Veterinary Hospitals at their respective thanas.
