Minister of State for Youth and Sports Obaidul Qader yesterday told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government would construct one sports complex at each thana in phases, reports BSS.

Each of the proposed thanalevel sports complex would cost Tk 25 lakh, he added.

The state minister was replying to a private member's resolution for constructing one stadium at each thana headquarters.

The mover of the resolution Zafrul Islam Chowdhury (BNP-Chittagong), however, withdrew his resolution on the basis of assurance by the state minister for constructing stadium at each parliamentary constituency in the country.

Earlier, moving amendments nine members supported the resolution. They were: Abdul Latif Mirza (AL-Sirajganj), Shamsul Alam Pramanik (BNP-Naogaon). Mohammad Waziuddin Khan (AL-Pabna). ABM Abdul Queshem (AL-Chit-tagong), Mohammad Shahidul Islam (BNP-Jhenaidah), Prof Shahidul Islam (BNP-Kushtia), Panchanan Biswas (AL-Khulna) and Kazi Sekandar Ali (AL-Khulna).

Spelling out the steps taken by the present government, the state minister said arrangements are being taken to develop one playground at the union level.

He informed the house of the proposed tour of New Zealand. West Indies and South African Cricket team to Bangladesh and said the government has been taking all steps for the development and promotion of cricket and football following outstanding successes of the country's cricket team in the World Cup.
