RAJSHAHI July 6: A total of 106 students of Rajshahi University and other colleges in the city in a joint statement urged the bankers' recruitment committee to hold its tests for appointment of officers and staffers in big towns of the country.

According to the statement, the bankers' recruitment committee announced an appointment notice in May this year saying that the applicants would have to appear in three examinations such as a preliminary written test, a final writ-

ten test and a viva voce .

The notice did not elaborate where the examinations would be held.

The students said." We apprehend that all the tests will be arranged in Dhaka as was done in the previous years."

They observed that many applicants could not appear in the previous examinations as it had been much expensive for the candidates to travel to Dhaka and back home after their stay over there. Security is also a matter of concern for them.

The statement said, it is very difficult for an unemployed youth to do the same. Female candidates are the worst sufferers because their security is a major concern, it added.

Expressing their deep concern. they said that any young man or woman had to apply for so many jobs which already cost much. Candidates of middle class families hardly bear the expenses, they said and aded. it becomes an oppression when they are asked to appear in Dhaka for tests which seldom bring good results.

We cannot but think that the tests had been arranged in Dhaka with an ill -intention to deprive the poor applicants and

the applicants irom other regions particularly northern region. "It is inhuman and violation of civil right", they observed.

They cited examples that the nationSlisd banks used to arrange the tests in all the divisional towns in the past when they appointed their personnel individually. The Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations are also held in the diVi-

sional headquarterrs. Then why the tests of the bankers recruitment committee cannot be arranged in the same way. they asked.

They have urged to hold the tests in the big towns like Rajshahi. Bogra, Rangpur, Dina-Sur, Kushtia, Jessore and other d district towns of the country for the convenience of poor applicants and those of the peripheral regions.
