JHENIDAH, July 6: Farjana Yasmin Shewly of Kanchannagor Model High School has been placed fourth in the Humanities Sup of tnls year's SSC examination from sore Board.
She wants to be a lawyer and she does not like student politics. She obtained 831 marks with letters in Mathematics. History. Islamic Religion and Agriculture Science. Usually she read for five hours a day including private tution in English. About private tuition she said that a student should not read to a private tutor in more than one subject. Her hobby is playing chess. She reads novels whenever time permits. Her father Sabdar Hossain is an employee of Telegraph and Telephone (T&T) Department in Jhenidah.
Fries destroyed by poisoning

SATKHIRA July 6: Fries worth Taka One crore were destroyed by poisoning in a hatchery here at village Gopalpur in Shyamnagar thana at dead of night on July 1.
Police sources said that a group of miscreants poured poison info the hatchery.
Fire arms recovered
MYMENSINGH. July 6: Gafargaon Police recovered a cut rifle and four rounds of bullets from near Rupantar Cinema Hall recently.
Acting on secret information, a squad of police recovered the fire arms which were lying at a place near the cinema hall. A case was filed with Gafargaon police in this regard.

A 12-member executive committee with Syed Imamul Azam. Abdur Rob. Montu Das Gopi and Habibur Rahman as President. Senior Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively was elected in a keen competition for the year 1999-2000. Earlier, the annual general meeUng of the club was held with its existing President Syed Imamul Azam in the chair. The election was peacefully conducted by senior journalist Abdul Ali Sikder

BRAHAMANBARIA, July 5: The annual general meeting of the district committee of Sheikh Kamal Smriti Parishad was held at a restaurant here recently with Advocate Abdul Qaiyum in the chair, reports BSS.
The meeting discussed in detail the political, social and cultural life of Sheikh Kamal, son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mu-Jibur Rahman. Prof Mohammad Ashraf. Syed Mohammad Afzal and Rehana Begum Rani took part in the discussion. A 21-member committee was formed with Advocate Abdul Qaiyum and Syed Mohammad Afzal as President and General Secretary respectively. $
Drug possessor gets 7-yr RI

KISHOREGANJ. July 6: One person was found guilty and sentenced to suffer seven years' Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for possessing liquid components used for manufacturing country made liquor.
Sufia Begum. Assistant Sessions Judge, Second Court. Kishoreganj while delivering the judgement recently also fined Buchi Rabidas of village Chandani tila in Bhairab thana Taka 2.000. in default, to suffer six months RI more. The prosecution case in brief is that, on May 26, 1997, an anti-drug team raided the house of the accused and recovered two big vessels containing 60 litres of liquid components used for manufacturing courtey-made wine.

Three dacoits held
NARSINGDI, July 6: Villagers on Friday night caught three alleged dacoits with a pipe gun at Bharather-kandi village in Shibpur thana, reports BSS.
The dacoits were handed over to the Shibpur police. Local people said a gang of about 10 armed dacoits were preparing to commit dacoity in the village. Sensing their presence the villagers laid seige to the area and caught three of them red handed. One pipe-gun was recovered from their possession. The dacoits were identified as Nuruzzaman.22, Jamal Uddin,26, and Ismail Hossain .24.

Young man killed in road accident
BAGERHAT. July 6: A young man was killed and five others were injured in an accident near Mathabhanga Bridge on Bagerhat-Rupsa road on Saturday midnight, reports UNB.
Witnesses said Kamrul Islam,32, a night guard of Roads and Highways Department died as he was trapped under the overturned vehicle of the department. They were returning to Khulna office after duty at Bagerhat ferry ghat. Witnesses said the office pick-up that turned turtle on the roadside ditch when the driver lost control over the steering. It was carrying eight employees of the department. The body of Kamrul was recovered alter lifting the vehicle this morning and sent for postmorthem The injured employees were admitted to Khalishpur Clinic. The condition of the driver was stated critical.
